The Xbox 360 version of Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is not yet rated by the ESRB. All other digital versions rated E10+. For rating information, please visit www.esrb.org.

DRINKBOX STUDIOS ANNOUNCES NEW GAME – GUACAMELEE!

The Studio’s new title is currently in Production with financial participation by the Canada Media Fund

TORONTO, Ontario (October 18th, 2011) – Toronto-based developer DrinkBox Studios has announced that it is working on a new downloadable game titled “Guacamelee!”.

Guacamelee! features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling through alternate dimensions including “The World of the Dead” and “The World of Nightmares” on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.

“The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters”, said DrinkBox COO Graham Smith.  “With this title, we’re looking to build upon the classic open-world, Metroid-vania style of games by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and cooperative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. We are also attempting to blur the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves you perform useful for both of these.”

Some other quotes about Guacamelee!:

“Hey, why is the save point guy in a Taco stand? And why is the stand named ‘Teddy’s Tacos’?” – Teddy Lee, DrinkBox Designer

“Guys… you’re all saying it wrong. Alebrije is pronounced Al-eh-BRI-heh, not Al-eh-BREY-he!” – Augusto Quijano, DrinkBox Animator

“Umm… Is that guy’s head on fire?” – Random play tester

DrinkBox will be showing an early playable build of the game at Digifest’s First Person Show in Toronto on October 30th, 2011. The announcement trailer for the game can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emtBP3DEFHw.
